Coming from Lausanne train station

Simple but expensive way: Taxi (~30 CHF per car).

Less expensive but nevertheless simple way: Metro (3 CHF per person).

Metro

The metro station is 20 m from the north exit of the train station next to McDonald's. If you exit the main hall of the station you will see the McDonald's in front of you on the other side of the street. Alternatively, it is also possible to reach the metro station by taking the underground passage directly from the train tracks in the direction North.

Buy a ticket for two zones (11 and 12). Take the metro (line M2 - the only line) in the direction Croisettes (the metro must go uphill!) and get off at the next stop Lausanne Flon (= 1 stop).

At this stop, change and take the line M1 in the direction of Renens CFF and get off at the EPFL station (= 9 stops). Exit in the direction of the train and take the underground passage. The SV building is about 150-200 m in the direction South and the Starling Hotel is about 200 m from the SV building again in the south direction.

Additional information

  • Depending on the time of the day and day of the week the interval between the metro trains is 5 to 20 minutes.
  • The price of the ticket is CHF 3.00 (full price) for two zones (11 and 12). It is valid for one hour.
  • The trip from Lausanne train station to the EPFL is about 25 minutes.

Coming from Renens train station

Next to track 1 of the Renens train station there is the M1 metro line (direction Lausanne-Flon).

Buy a ticket for zone 12 (3 CHF).

Get off the metro at EPFL station (= 5 stops). The conference site (the SV building) is about 150-200 m in the direction South and the Starling Hotel is about 200 m from the SV building again in the south direction.

Coming by car

Use a navigation system or a map to get to Lausanne. As you are approaching Lausanne, follow the signs to Lausanne-Sud, then exit at University-EPFL. The University of Lausanne and EPFL campuses will be on your right. The Starling hotel is 2.5 km down the road from the motorway exit on the south (lake) side of the road.
